skin on nipple peeled off, ouch! :(

anyone else had this happen to them before? i just finished pumping and noticed that some outer layer of skin peeled off my left nipple and now it hurts and it's so raw! can i still BF or should i wait until it heals? also, is there any way to soothe it?

Same thing happened to me... Seemed like every time I BF'd it would get worse, even starting bleeding once while pumping. I tried the Lansinoh cream, which helped to soothe, but didn't seem to heal. The best thing that worked for me was to just hand express a little milk after each feeding and let it dry over the cracked area. My doctor said it wouldn't hurt to continue BF while it healed, but it started to really bother me when LO latched on, so I EP'd until it healed a little. Hope it works for you..

I had all sorts of peels and cracks and blisters and.. yeah it was a fun first week or so.

I ended up using all purpose nipple ointment (prescription but Obs generally prescribe easily - however it can be very expensive - like $60 - $100. For me it was like magic cream though!) and a nipple shield for a week straight (we had used on and off and knew she would would go back and forth without an issue) - and it really really helped.  Also - I switched to medela Lanolin and found it much easier - nicer then the Lanisoh.  It spreads and rubs in easier.

I also got and used the shower hug wrap - I LOVE that thing..
