my maternal grandmother had 3 sets of identical twins...and my paternal grandmother had fraternal twins... I'm wondering what are my chances of having twins?

Wow 3 sets of ID???  That must be some kind of record since the odds are like 1 in millions.  ID twins are not a herditary trait, just a fluke.  Fraternal twinning can be inherited because of the tendancy to release more than one egg each cycle.  Your odds are likely the same as anyone else, why do you ask?

This exactly. My mom is a fraternal twin and so it didn't come as such a huge surprise to our Doc that I'm carrying frat twins also. Apparently, I'm genetically predisposed to hyper ovulation as a result of it coming from my maternal side.

identical twins are totally random. Family history makes no impact. and for fraternal, only your mother's side could make any influence with fraternal twins b/c you inherit your ability to ovulate (or ovulate multiple eggs) from her side only.

so your odds are the same as someone with zero family history of twins (like me)
