Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What to do with clothing?

I feel really bad because a friend of mine I haven't seen in a while bought my DD 6 month outfits from Carters but bought them back in July. Turns out we went to lunch and she was interested to find out some of the places I would shop for the baby (was about 7/8 months pregnant at the time with DD). I brought her to the Carter's store and told her... oh just get 6 months ... She will be about six months in January. Well she must have bought the clothes within the month or two because she just gave me a bunch of clothes from the Summer/Spring line - 2 or three pieces I might I want her to wear in the winter but I have my eye on some warmer more wintery outfits. I feel really bad and mad at myself because I should have told her to give me a gift receipt. I usually give gift receipts because you never know how they grow or what someone might already have. I can't ask for the receipt because she probably does not have it and feel like I am insulting her.

What do I do return some of them, and get like $$5.00 in credit on something she spent $12.00 for ? No one I know is pregnant that I can re gift and give them too:(

Re: What to do with clothing?

  • I know. I kind of hate that that she gets cute clothes but the gifter didn't plan that it will be winter months when she's that size. I'm just putting long sleeves and pants under what I can.

  • Carter's has a great return policy (even with no receipt).  I'd go ahead and return it, because Carter's also runs great sales all the time, so even though the tag says $12, she might have only paid $6-$8 for it, and you'll still get at least $3-4 back.  And if you wait for the next good sale to spend your store credit, you'll be able to make that credit go pretty far.

  • I'd first see what you can get for a return. If it's not worth it, save them to give to someone else down the line, re-sell them at consignment or donate them to a women's and children's shelter.

  • i have just been adding either long sleeves under it

or pants or cute jacket over it cause while inside its nice and cozy

its only cold outside  while getting from point a to point b

  • I thought DS was going to be a big baby (the Drs even told me He was already 8 pounds at 36 weeks) so I returned a bunch of the newborn cloths (which I didn't have receipts for) to some of the stores I thought they came from, Kohls, Targets... well I didn't get much them, I did switch out some of the smaller sizes for larger sizes but most of the outfits I had, were on clearance by that point.

also, most of the 3 months cloths are all summer cloths.  he just got into 3 months size a few weeks ago....so I have been adding a long sleeve onesie to some of them, and pants and a sweatshirt/jacket.

  • I'd try to return some of it. If you're thinking about or planning to have another, I'd save it for the next baby.

    Thank you everyone!

No, no next baby for me ... i got my my boy and now my little girl and I'm done - two is enough for me to juggle. I will just return what I think will not work... get the credit and wait for a sale. I just feel so bad because she bought. like 5 outfits and took the time to do this.
