Throwing up on purpose

My daughter has throwing up down to a T to get out of going to bed at bedtime. She uses no fingers, all she has to do is cough and it comes up. This happened at 12 months and eventually she stopped and now she's started up again. I don't know what to do about it, I'm at my whits end. Usually, we would get her out, clean her up, clean up the bed and floor and put her back in. That's done nothing to help because she knows she gets out of bed, when she throws up. DH put her to bed tonight and I just heard her throw up and we are just letting her sit in it for a bit, then I will just clean up what I can while she stays in the bed, I'm not letting her out this time. Hopefully, this will work.

If you had/ have a child who did the same, what did you do to stop it or did it stop on it's own? Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Re: Throwing up on purpose

  • My son has never done this, but I have to ask.  Has she been checked out by a doctor.  I mean, that seems pretty extreme to just want to get out of bed.  Also, making her lay in it seems pretty cruel, whether it's on purpose or not.

  • I have talked to a doctor and my doctor said her kids did the same thing. She only does it was bedtime, no other time of day. It may sound cruel, but like you said you never had to deal with it. It's not like she slept in it, we cleaned it up, but I let her sit there without cleaning it up for a half hour instead of jumping up immediately. She doesn't do it in her bed, most of it is on the floor because she stands up at the side of the bed. I'm looking for someone who's had experience with this and what they did.

  • DS did this, IMO. Other people (on the bump) didn't think it was on purpose, but I did. He only did it at nap time (not seeming sick at all the rest of the day, normal appetite, etc).

Honestly, I didn't "do" anything. He only did it for two days and never did it again (so far).

Actually, the only thing we "did" was not put him to nap immediately after lunch time. But now, we are back to putting him down immediately after lunch and he hasn't done it recently.

ETA: Sorry I'm no help, but yes DS did this.
