Camden?

Hello

 I was hoping to get some opinions on the name Camden James for a boy. I like the name Camden and DH doesn't, but said he will agree if the middle name is James.  Other names we have debated are Micah and Carson. 

Thoughts?? Thanks in advance. I am due in 7 weeks and trying to name this baby is driving me nuts. We are team green but we have a couple of girl names picked out.

It goes with your other children's names.

Personally I like Micah much better than Carson or Camden.

Camden is one of the dirtiest, crime filled towns in NJ and when I hear the name Camden, that's all I think of. If you're not from that area, though, it would be a nice name and I love it with James. Carson and Carter James are on our short list.

I will say, though, that while Micah is nms, I reallly like it with Jordynn and Mason.

I've never even been to NJ, and I still think of the town there when I hear the name.  Not a good association at all.

hahaha yes, it is a pretty well known town and not for good reasons! I moved to WV and only go back to NJ when I absolutely have to!

My DH grew up in NJ not too far from Camden, and it's usually on the list of the 10 worst crime areas in the US.  Camden Maine on the other hand is very nice, but most people think of NJ.  Anytime he hears the name he can't think of anything else.  I like Micah a lot more.

I like both Miach James and Carson James a thousand times better than Camden James. Two celebrities just named their babies Camden.

Just FYI pretty sure Camden James is the exact name of either Jay Cutler and Kristen Cavalaris boy or Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey's new son (one was Camden James the other Camden Jack). I don't mind celebrity connection to names but the exact name thing is weird.

 

I do like Camden though. And Micah. Carson would be in 3rd for me.

Two different celebrities just named their kids Camden and I have a feeling it will get trendy very soon, so it makes me not like it so much. Plus it sounds kind of made up for a name... it's a place.

I think of the gross town of Camden and honestly it seems like a rip off of Cameron to me and I love that name (my brother's name, he is actually Cameron James and I think that flows great). I personally like Carson better than Micah but if you're worried about popularity I *think* Carson is more popular. Babynamewizard also has a name mapper so you can see what names are trendier in your state (although it does still vary within states).

I love the name Camden. I don't think about the town at all. But then again when I hear the names Jackson, Savannah, Jordan, Kennedy, Chelsea Charlotte, Austin, Hunter, Kyle, Owen, Wyatt, Victoria, Sydney, Sierra, Brandon, Kelsey, Leslie, Hailey, Denver, Kody, Dallas, Carson, Logan, Morgan, Madison, Cameron, Bethany, Allison, Adeline, London, Riley, Tyler, Chase, Douglas and Brooklyn.....I don't think of those places either I just think of it as a name.

If you love the name, use it! Most of the people I know don't associate the names with the towns. And when I hear the name my first thought isn't "Oh...they named him Douglas? I wonder if the town of Douglas was their favorite place to vacation?"

I like Carson best, then Camden. I don't like Micah at all, though to be fair I have a bad association with the name due to two awful students I've had in the past.

I live in NY and all I think about is the crime ridden city of NJ and why would anyone choose to name a child after it.

Camden is somewhat nationally notorious for crime (it had the highest number of violent crimes per capita in the nation for many years around 2008).  So it isn't just NJ folks who will know of Camden, it is the vast majority of east coasters and probably a lot of others.

I went to college in Philly so I am definitely aware of Camden and have the negative association.  It would be like living in SoCal and naming your kid Compton.

I would avoid it.  You might live in Nebraska, but your kid might want to move east.  If he ends up in NYC or Philly or DC the name Camden is not classy.

ETA:  I love James. 

Some other names to consider that are similar(ish) - Cameron, Carson, Connor, Carter, Christian...

I'm a born and raised Jersey girl so I always think of the nasty So. NJ town! Sorry but I do not like it. My friend from GA just named her daughter Camdyn. Because she wasn't from NJ it didn't have a negative connotation like it does here!

Of your choices, I like Micah.

People would assume that a kid named Camden around here would be named after the baseball stadium. So I don't like it for that reason. But I also think it just sounds trendy.

I like Camden and I think it goes well with your other children's names.

I'm in Canada and have never heard of the place everyone is talking about. There are so many reasons to avoid almost every name out there. I wouldn't focus on that and, rather, choose a name you like.

I like Micah as well but I don't think it goes as well as a sibset. I'm not a fan of Carson.

I do like the PP's suggestion of Cameron instead.
