Babies: 9 - 12 Months

IUD?

I had the paragard put in 7 months ago. At the 6 month mark for my regular pap, he said it had moved, string was longer, checked it and said was no longer effective. He said higher chance of it happening again if I get another IUD put in.

It was $750 out of pocket and cant get money back. Need options! Has anyone had an issue with first IUD and ok with 2nd?

My body hates hormones- on the pill right now, and I bleed all the time! I have tried so many over the years.

So frustrating. Done having kids and aside from condoms, I feel like I have no options.

BTW- scared about Essure procedure, and husband on blood thinners and too risk for vasectomy.

Any thoughts?

Re: IUD?

  • I had issues with my IUD, caused painful fibroids. I had it taken out, and I'm on the pill. I plan on having more kids, so this is a good option for me.

If you do get another IUD, you run the risk of it not being effective and out more money... Other than getting tubes tied if you're done having kids, I'm not quite sure of other options., especially if the pill is also not working for you.

I'm sorry I can't think of anything else! Hope you find something that works.

  • Why are you afraid of the Essure procedure?   That is what I'll be getting when I remove my IUD (I'm only 99% sure I'm done having babies).  I'm afraid of the general anesthesia that comes with getting a tubal, that is why I am opting to get the Essure.  It can be done in my OB's office with a sedative.  Once you pass the dye test 3 months later you're set.

He in Europe the arm implant is the go to BC for people. It freaks me out but my friends have done it and think it's the best thing ever. In the US I believe it's called implanon?

I've never even heard of implanon until now. I know my OB highly recommends the IUD or the pill....

     I learned something today!

I was all set and then starting reading horror stories about it. Basically, although rare, you can have unidentified painful pelvic pain (my doctor even mentioned it). Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do to help you with that once done (unlike getting IUD removed).
