Spitting up everywhere!!!

My baby is ten weeks old, EBF and very good aside from sleeping for long stretches. Last night, he spit up everywhere! Had to have been 3 ounces.

Now at 3am, he ate for three minutes, fell asleep, so I changed him and burped him. When I burped him, he spit up soooo much!

Is he sick? What's happening?

  • I don't know....our babies are the same age and Amir has started sitting up allot to. He's bottle fed bm, no we don't over feed him. He's been getting ridiculously lately. He never used to spit up.

  • Not entirely related but it's 315am here and I just started feeding DS. Annnnd he just spit up all over my boob while my nip was still in his mouth. GROSS.

In regards to your question, my pedi calls it happy spitting. She said if baby isn't stressed out about it, I shouldn't be either. And as long as he keeps gaining weight all is good.

  • Ok. He never used to do it! And it's been crazy, like many ounces, covering me, the boppy, the couch and the pillow behind me!
  • The only thing I can think of is gas. Try and burp him often. Ds has done this before and gas is always a culprit for us.

The first time my son did it I FREAKED OUT. He threw up as much as a grown man could, lol.  And it shot across our queen size bed, covering it along the way, and even got on the floor on the other side. But DS didn't act any different.

Someone suggested to me that he was getting too much milk because he was getting more efficient at breast feeding. I think that may have been the case for us as he spit up a lot for a couple days but then after our feedings took/take half the time but he's still steadily gaining.
