Frustration with Angelcare monitor

We purchased the Angel Care Movenment Sensor with Sound Monitor (AC401) and we are trying to get used to it before LO comes. What frustrates me is when we move off of the sensor pad, the alarm goes off on the parent unit and the nursery unit! Wont that wake my baby? Or startle him? Is there a way to make it so the alarm does not go off in the nursery but still goes off on the parent unit? All help would be greatly appreciated! I can not find my receipt to return there for we need to learn how to use this thing!

Re: Frustration with Angelcare monitor

  • The alarm goes off on both units and you can't change it.

If you bought it on your registry, you should be able to return it.

  • I believe the point of the alarm going off on the parent and baby unit is so that if, heaven forbid, a child has stopped breathing the alarm will hopefully startle them and remind them to breathe.  We had the Angelcare with my oldest and only had the alarm go off once and he actually slept through it but I was always under the assumption that it was a good thing that the unit in the baby's room would alarm.

This. In the nicu the alarms got louder as they went off so they might wake the baby if they are in a deep sleep and their heart rate drops. I always figured it was the same idea.

  • We had a different device but same idea...and trust me, the baby is going to wake up anyway when your alarm goes off and you run in there and rip them out of their crib!

  • It will go off in both locations.  It has gone off maybe 8 times and most of them are because she moved to the end and had an arm/let hanging out the crib.  So far it hasn't woken her up so much that she doesn't go right back to sleep.  Part of the safety feature is that it will take your child out of a deep sleep if that is the reason it went off.

  • Silly me! How could I have not figured that out on my own! That makes total sense! Are your alarms really loud on the nursery unit?

Are there any tricks I should know about this monitor?

  • We love our monitor.

On thing is once your baby is home, it may take a bit to adjust the sensitivity level. We used ours on level three for our mattress. As she got older and would move until she was crammed on the far side, it wouldn't register her so I switched it to a 5. She is 11mo old now and we unhooked the sensor pad. We did have it go off a few times and she would sleep right through the first beep that is supposed to startle the baby. But once the alarm went off, she would wake and roll over or move in some way that the pad felt her movement again and the alarm would turn off.
