Come out of the bedroom

So we have this huge problem in our house! Before we had a baby we maybe lived in 3 rooms at our house. Bedroom, Bathroom and Kitchen...... Literally, we eat dinner in our bedroom, we watch tv, its just always been like that. Well now that we have a baby I feel like we need to learn to live in other rooms in the house, but when DH is home he will not join me in the living room, so if I want to spend time with him then I have to take all of LO's toys, playmat, swing , etc. to the bedroom so that we can sit and hang out with DH.

Do you think if I go and buy him a nice LazBoy recliner that he will venture out of the bedroom? I knwo wishful thinking, but I am desperate to not have our LO think that our bedroom is the place to be.

Re: Come out of the bedroom

  • I would say all to your husband first. Tell him you want to have family time in the Iiving room instead of the bedroom. Also I've heard you would get a better night's rest in the bedroom if you only go there for sleeping....versus doing work etc.

if the conversation isn't going where you want it to go I would offer the lazy boy. But ask him if this would make him spend more time in the living room first. You wouldn't want to buy it and have him not use it

  • Hahaha I laughed out loud and read this to SO because this was sort of us before daxton was born. We never sat at the kitchen table. Only if company came over. And my dad didn't even count as company he'd join us in the living room. We had discussions that the baby would eventually eat solids and sit at a table with us. It took us moving to a new place to get out of that rut. And literally forcing him to eat at the table. You want to eat the food I made? Its on the table. Not the living room. I'd tell him it's just not appropriate to be in the bedroom all the time as a family. Living places are made for that reason. Good luck.

Thanks!!Its not a bad thing, We have just never had to worry about anyone else. When I was breast feeding it was ok becuase sitting on the bed was the most comfortable place to feed, but now that I am pumping I just feel like we need to get the crap out of the bedroom lol!

  • I totally live in my living room. I am such a lazy and tired POS these days that negotiating the stairs to go all the way to the kitchen 4 times a night requires too much effort. LOL

  • I'm sure he'll understand and move out into the living room if you explain why to him. You're nicer than I am...I'd never but SO a recliner just so he'd come out into the living room. If you want to see your child, we'll be in the living room. He'd come out eventually.

We only sleep in our bedroom. I hate when SO's little brother is over and I have to go pump in there. I feel locked up. We have an open concept house, so I'm used to just hanging in the kitchen and living room, where it's open.

This is us exactly. Mum comes over and we all sit in the couch for dinner. We talk about sitting at te table once Chloe eats food. Hmmm. Have we created a terrible monster of a habit? Eek. We have an open concept living spec though so maybe we will be okay... Can still see the tv from the table. Haha awful.

It's really odd, but now that we live in an open concept apartment, we actually eat at the table more often and with the TV off more often.  We have no rhyme or reason when and why we eat on couch vs.table, and tv vs no tv, but I'm glad for the change!
