This is a question for you ladies who BF and pump. How many times do you pump daily and how much do you get totally? I pumped twice today and got 4.5 oz total. Wondering if this sounds like normal.
I work and I've found that pumping about every three hours is the ideal timing with max breast milk...I get about two ounces each side...so if you've only limped twice that sounds about right. A whole 8-10 work day ill come home with about 14+ oz. my baby is strictly brassy milk and has "mild" reflux so he'll initially get down about 10-15oz a day. Hope this helps!
When I nurse DD sometimes I pump on the other side and I'll get about 2 oz. When I pump at night (I do bottles at night and nurse during the day) I'll get an average total of 5 oz. But if I go too long, I can get more.
ETA: 5 oz, from both breasts, each time

I get 2-3 oz per side when I pump. Right now, I'm only pumping after the morning feeding. I tried yesterday to pump one side while DD ate on the other, and I got 6 oz. on that one side, but it was too hard to hold her and ensure she was eating well and hold onto the pump.
I pumped with both my LO. I had to eventually exclusively pump with both as well. First, what is the reason for your pumping? If you are doing it to build a supply it may not be time yet. How old is your LO. I think number one is everyone is going to get a different amount. And the pump is not going to "latch" on your nipple like a baby can. Your baby is the best thing to put on your breast in the beginning. If you are pumping to give yourself a break and have someone else feed your LO you need to pump every time your baby would usually feed. I would say pump after a complete feeding. Maybe wait 10 minutes after youre done feeding and then pump on each side for 10 min. You need to make your body think that your baby needs more food. You prob won't get much, if anything out for a couple days but eventually your hormones will start producing more milk. Keep in mind you are going to feel like you are pumping or feeding your baby all day long!! And yes, you still need to pump in the middle of the night if the baby isnton the breast. I would say pumping is a big pain in the butt because now not only do you have a child on your boob but you are now devoting time to pumping AND washing bottles! So with all that being said, with my first kid I would pump 5-6 times a day in the beginning (every time she ate) and I would get whatever she was supposed to be eating at the time (2 oz, 3 oz,up to 6 or 8 oz at about 4 months) With my second kid I was able to have her on the breast a little more so I did the pump after feeding thing and it upped my supply by A LOT! I was getting 6-8 oz when my baby was needing only 4 oz... It was wonderful till I stopped because she has milk protein intolerance and I felt like I was making her sick with my milk (another perk to BF!) ....
But, the pumping and BF can be done if that is the decision you make. I would say, too keep in contact with your lactation consultants. I am not a professional in all this I can only tell you my experience and what I would do for MY body. You really need to ask a professional what to do bc if you go a wk doing the wrong thing it could really impact your milk supply. GL!!! and just keep chugging along!!!
I'll trade ya...we are having supply issues and I'm lucky to get 1oz total from both breasts. This is with a manual pump though and hoping switching to a hospital grade this week will help.

Right now I'm pumping each side once a day. (I do one side in the morning and one side in the evening. LO only eats one side at a time, so I pump the opposite side that he ate on.)
I usually get about 5 oz; I've gotten as little as 3 oz and as much as 7.5 oz. That's per boob per pumping session, so I guess I'm lucky.
Mine really varies. There are times I get 8 oz and times I get 4 oz (normally towards the middle of the day). Normally more in the morning and right before bed and less in the afternoon and early evening. I try to pump at least every three hours while I am at work and I also pump before I leave for work and once before bed. When I was on maternity leave and EP for a few weeks after he was born, I pumped everytime I gave him a bottle and sometimes more. At that point the lactation consultant said to pump 6-7 times a day with at least one session between 1 am and 5 am. This was sometimes difficult to do but I think it really got my supply going in the beginning.
I pump every 2.5-3.5 hrs. During the say I usually get 4-4.5 oz both breast, at night I get 5-7.5 depending on the time of night. My biggest is the 4 am pumping session. So all together in a day, at most I'm getting about 40 oz a day. Not a ton but I have a manual pump so that's great.

I have to exclusively pump, but I've heard for the moms that strictly breastfeed and only pump on occassion they get a lot more milk.
I have low milk supply. Without herbs I can only pump about 1/2 ounce both breasts combined. I really thought I would just have to go to formula completely, but I made an appointment with a lactation consultant. She's the one that told me about herbs and recommended I use a tea called Breastea from breastea.com
After using the Breastea for awhile I am pumping a whole bunch more. Now I get 4 to 5 ounces per pumping. Without it my milk supply starts to drop a whole bunch.
