Transition from bassinet to crib

We are trying to move 12 week old from PnP napper in our room to crib in his. He has had naps in the day in his crib as well as some playtime while I clean up in his room. How have you made this move? Any suggestions or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Transition from bassinet to crib

  • I just did it cold turkey at 6 weeks and it was successful from the first night. She was used to sleeping in a co sleeper that had a similar surface, and also took naps in the crib from time to time, so she was quite comfortable with the switch.  If your LO currently sleeps in a bassinet, I think you'll be successful in he transition as well. I think the difficulty lies when LOs are used to swings or rnp's.

  • When I was ready to put DD in her crib I got one of those wedges that your baby lays in the middle of to prevent them from rolling on their side and put that in the bassinet with her.  After about a week I started her in her crib with the wedge so it sort of felt the same.  I didn't have any problems and only used the wedge for a couple more days, just until I knew she was used to her crib.  I'll try the same thing with DS.
  • We just moved our LO cold turkey as well at 5 weeks and ever since (knock on wood) she has slept at least 9 hours with one Middle of the night feeding. Since she was used to the bassinet being on an incline we put a rolled up blanket under the mattress to prop it up a little. Also, a white noise machine has been a lifesaver in soothing her back to sleep. Good luck! I hope we stay so lucky!
