Powder Formula

Those of you that use powder formula...how do you mix it to get rid of the foam? We shook it and it was all bubbly and foamy. Even after letting it sit for over an hour.

Also, how do you account for it being thinner? Do you put more powder in? TIA

Re: Powder Formula

  • Some people use the formula mixers, Dr Browns has one. You can try to swirl it rather than shake up and down, or try a spoon to mix it.

Not sure what you mean by it being thinner ? You just follow the directions on the can, don't add extra to thicken it up if that's what you're asking.

  • My sister said the liquid formula is thicker than the powder formula kind of like the diff between skim milk and whole milk so it doesnt fill him up like the liquid does. So he would still be hungry after a feeding.

  • we make our bottles ahead of time and shake them, by the time we need to use them the foam settles down. we also heat it in a pan of water ( i know old fashioned but i refuse to microwave a bottle no matter what) and swirl while warming.

this only happens when we use the similac sensitive. we usually feed gerber gentle and it does not foam bad. we also found that the liquid (ready to feed or concentrate) lasts with LO longer.

Our Lo will be 4wks on sunday and eats between 3-4oz at a time every 4-5 hours during the day and has gone 6 hours at night

The liquid one does seem to be a different consistency, you are right. But just follow the powder instructions.

  • You can add a dose of Mylicon (simethicone) to the bottle and that will help break up any bubbles. I do this with bottles of pre-measured water I carry in my diaper bag.

At home, I make a batch of formula a day with a Dr. Brown's formula mixing pitcher. It works well for mixing without bubbles.
