Re: Is a double stroller needed for 22 mos apart?

  • I work FT, so I am not planning to get one since I won't be with them running errands all day.  I wore DD as an infant all the time, so I suspect I'll do this with LO2 as well.   DD is very independent and wants to walk everywhere already.  If we go somewhere for an extended period of time, its just as easy for MH and I to each push a stroller.  However, I'm well aware I may change my tune when LO2 arrives.  I can always go out and get one after the fact if I find it necessary.

Since your ticker seems like you are very newly pregnant, I'd suggest waiting until just before you are due to decide.

  • I'm a SAHM and so is my bestie.  Her two are 21 months apart and she and I both have the City Select.  Sometimes you just NEED to be able to restrain and bring along at YOUR pace :-D

The nice thing about the City Select is that it's a single or a double trivially.  Every time you get the thing out of the trunk you can decide if you need one seat or two.  And the under basket is huge and super easy to get into.

  • IMO yes. DD1 and DS were 14 months apart so it was a MUST.

But now, I have DS (22 months) and DD2 (2 months), and I still use my double 99.9% of the time. DS can walk but he doesn't focus on staying near the stroller like DD1 does. DD1 can listen and stay when I need her to. DS, though, runs when he thinks you're chasing him. So for now, he is strapped in the stroller.

  • I work FT and I use my double stroller pretty regularly. I didn't get a high end one though. My LO's are 16 months apart and even now with DD at 23 months and having been walking since 10.5 months, I still use it a lot because I don't want her running through stores.

  • Thanks so much ladies.. Looks like I will probably be ordering one.

Lol as far as a 22 month old being mobile hahaha dumb question.. I guess I meant if they would walk with you or get tired and need the stroller even for short trips or something...

They DEFINITELY get tired. And they may or may not listen when you say "stay here" or "don't walk that way", lol.

  • Mine are 22 months apart and over year later we still use ours almost daily. Also, I'm kinda cheap and was skeptical about buying an expensive stroller but I'm so glad I did. We have the city mini. The difference in how easy it is to push, especially with 50+ lbs of kids is remarkable compared to a couple cheaper ones my friends have. GL

  • My girls are just a little under 22 months apart. My oldest is now 3 and I STILL use my double stroller on a regular basis.

With this being said, I think it really depends on your oldest. DD1 looooooves to be in the stroller. In fact, if we're out with just the single stroller, she often ends up being the one sitting in it. lol. My niece, however, was done with the stroller before she even turned 2.

We have the City Mini single right now.

Question... with the City Mini double does one side have an attachment to put a carseat? Sorry if that is a dumb question..

  • Mine are 17 months apart.I got a used Duo Glider off Craigs list and used it maybe 5 times total.  It's a beast but I think most tandem doubles are.In the beginning I wore the baby and continued to use our single stroller.  It's so much easier to chase after a toddler with the baby secured to your body!! Once the baby was bigger we found the sit and stand a better fit for us.  Baby secured, toddler able to get out but also able to be secured.  With a true double I was constantly getting the toddler in and out of the stroller at places like the zoo so he could do some exploring.  It became exhausting.  Sit and stand suited our needs better because he could run around when we were OK with it but have a place to rest when tired and a place to ride safely to the car in a parking lot. My advice is to wait until you see what the personality of your older one is stroller-wise when you get closer to the point of actually needing one.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • Thank you all so much.
