PP Bleeding

I thought at 5 weeks PP bleeding had stopped completely. Well a week later (Monday) it started back up again. I had my 6 week checkup on Wednesday and the doctor said it was not my period, just more PP bleeding. It is getting annoying because I will bleed bright red one day and the following day there won't be anything and then the pattern repeats. The bleeding usually comes with cramps too. I'm not doing anything I didn't do entire time I was pregnant so I don't think I'm overdoing it, especially since it has been almost 7 weeks since I gave birth.

With DS I only had bleeding for 4 weeks and it was done. Anyone else bleed longer than 6 weeks?

Re: PP Bleeding

  • I bled for 6 weeks exactly, had a 5 day break, then it started again, not sure if it was my period or not but it lasted 5 days and stopped again.

  • I'm 7 and a half weeks pp and the bleeding has let up a little but hasn't stopped.
  • I had a return of bleeding and lots of pain/swelling at 4 weeks. The pain subsided for the most part but it's still annoying, never got an explanation and the doctor said I looked fine down there. Bleeding went away but came back at 6 weeks, this past Tuesday. No cramps whatsoever, not heavy but definitely blood. I am EBF so I have no clue.

  • I figured I would respond since I bled for a long time, although I hope I don't scare you. My bleeding had pretty much stopped by my 6 week appt. After it started up again and would be heavy and red then less the next day. There really wasn't much of a pattern, just sometimes heavy and sometimes not. At 8 weeks it got heavy enough to go to the ER (soaked a pad in an hour). Turned out there was still tissue in my uterus and my body was trying to get rid of it. I had a D&C later that week and it has tapered off now. I'm definitely hoping that's not your situation!

  • He said there was no signs of estrogen which meant no period. Just the visual assessment I guess.

I'm still bleeding at 7.5 weeks and this possibility scares me.  Can they do an ultrasound to check for retained tissue?

  • I'm still having a little bit of very light bleeding every day, I'm 7 weeks pp.  It's weird because I can go all day with no bleeding and then all of a sudden some comes out.
