Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you let your LO sleep with a blanket now that it's getting cold?

My LO is 10 months, he has slept with a lil soothie blanket for about 2 months with no problems.  Now that it's getting cold here I was wanting to throw a small blanket in there too that he can snuggle with.  I'm trying it for naps first to see how it goes but I was curious if anyone else has started letting more things in the crib yet.

  • Yes, but it is always in a ball in the corner of the crib in the morning.

We still use the sleepsack.nbsp; I have no idea how he'll ever use a blanket.nbsp; Honestly he tosses and turns and visits every single inch of his crib every night... He has never slept in one position for the entire night.nbsp; I think the blanket would be useless in actually keeping him warm.
That said, if he did sleep like a normal human then I'd totally put a blanket in there.

My DS tosses and turns in sleep as well and some nights the blanket manages to stay on him... we started putting him in footie jammies and the blanket cause he finds that comforting. He moved around last night and still had the blanket on, until he stood!

  • DD has been sleeping with a blanket for quite a while in her crib. I think since 6 months. It's a security thing for her now, she can't sleep without it. Now that it's getting colder, she wears footies. During the summer, we had 2 piece PJ's, some that were shorts and short sleeves.  Now, we're getting back to footies and as it gets colder, fleece footies too.

THIS!! They make a micro fleece (super cozy) sleep sac.

  • My DD moves a loooot, so a blanket wouldn't make a difference. We use sleep sacks!

  • no. they make me nervous.
  • DD slept with a blanket up until about 1.5 months ago...when she started wrapping it around her head.  Her her screaming when I laid her down for a nap and checked on her because it wasn't normal.  There was no way she could have gotten it off by herself.  So, we now use larger sleep sacks and it's become part of her routine.  She goes in the sleep sack, she knows it's nap or bedtime.  I'm scared to give her one again!

  • Yes my LO sleeps with a really soft minky blanket, he has to hold it for comfort.

  • LO's had a blanket since day one and it's never stayed on her through the night. I keep a space heater in her room & a humidifier going so that it isn't too cool in there overnight. The blanket is usually balled up and more of a snuggle toy than anything else.
  • No, I have always used sleep sacks with all my kids until they grew out of them.  A blanket is pointless because they never keep it on.  I just put them in warm fleece pjs and a sleep sack when it is really cold.

Exactly this lol. I've tried putting a blanket in during naps to see how she does but it never stays on her for more than a minute - she kicks it right off when she's rolling around trying to get comfortable to go to sleep.

  • DS has had a blanket since 8 months. He naps once for 2 hours and usually the blanket will stay put on him but at night he moves way too much. He also sleeps with a stuffed animal that he always cuddles with and he has a small teether too.

  • My mom knit him a bunch of blankets, so we usually use one of them at night.

  • We've used sleep sacks ever since they stopped being swaddled. Why don't you try one and see how he does? My girls like others have stated move all over their crib when sleeping so I think a blanket would be pointless, although for short naps I do use one.

  • Two piece cotton jams with a fleece blanket sleeper over on cool nights...I add a long-sleeve onesie under the two-piece pajamas with fleece footed sleeper on the nights it's downright cold.

Over the summer/early fall it was a lightweight cotton footed sleeper and an Aden & Anais muslin sleep sack.

  • Yes, but he doesn't keep it on. He sleeps in his fuzzy warm winter jammies now, with the feet and everything, so I'm pretty sure he's warm enough. Anyway, he sleeps 12 hours without a peep so I guess he's comfy!

My MIL did the same thing and we use them for DD.  Usually during the night it get balled up in the corner but for naps it stays on her pretty well.
