VBAC

Clicky Poll XP

I'm curious to see if there is a difference.  This board is obvioulsy proVBAC, and it seems like most on the c/s board are proRCS.  I'm wondering if that has to so with the type of c/s experience a women had the first time.  So I'm also posting this on the c/s board to see what it looks like.  [Poll]

I selected planned only a couple weeks ahead, but in reality, my c-section was planned just the day before.

  • I would guess that recovery experience from csection has a lot to do with it as well.

Agreed.  My c/s itself was ok, even though it was unplanned.  It was the recovery that made me realize I wanted to avoid an RCS at all costs.

  • I clicked SS. I was induced at 38 weeks so the csection was always plan B if the induction failed.
  • We realized DD2 was breech at 37wks.  Tried a version (unsuccessfully) at 38wks and immediately scheduled a c/s for 39wks.

  • Thought baby was head down when labor started, then I felt something crazy in my belly, then the baby was breech (I think he flipped)...

So I had a c-section after 7 hours of drugless labor...

  • I chose after labor but not an emergency.  When they called the section, we were heading that route but I wanted to do it before it became life and death.  It was the right choice as DS was malpositioned, over 10 lbs, and crushing his own cord.

That had nothing to do with me choosing a VBAC.  I wanted to VBAC because the recovery for a c/s is too long for me and elective surgery (or any surgery) is dangerous.

Also, I wanted to note- while I am Pro-VBAC, I am certainly NOT anti-c-section.

  • I was pregnant with twins and the last few weeks their positions made it obvious that I'd need a c/s.  Before setting the c/s date I went into labor - so the timing was unplanned but not the c-section factor.  My recovery was a lot better than I expected.  But now that I have two kids at home, I'm not sure it would go as easy.

  • I clicked SS because mine was unplanned, non-emergency, but I never went into labor. I got HELLP and we had to do a c/s at 34w1d. It was actually a pretty easy c/s and recovery, but knowing how awful it was to get up out of bed for about a week and still difficult for a while after that, I don't want to go through that with a newborn and a toddler if at all possible. I did have one serious complication - a deep vein thrombosis - but this time I'll be on heparin after birth so it's unlikely it will happen again. Still, I would prefer a VBAC but won't be devastated if I end up with a RCS.

BFP1: DD1 born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
    BFP2: 3/18/12, blighted ovum, natural m/c @ 7w4d
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence

  • Mine c/s was unplanned, non-emergency after labor started.  It wasn't the c/s experience that made me choose VBAC, it was the recovery.  My recovery wasn't horrible, but it was still a recovery.  And with a toddler at home to take care of, I was very happy not to have to recover from a c/s the second time.
