Big fetuses, small mother, will they come early?

Hi folks,

I'm 5'2" and petite. When I got pregnant with twins everyone said, 'where are you going to put them??'  Har Har.

At 32 weeks, I found out that they're weighing in at almost 5 pounds each!  (No gestational diabetes.)  At first I was delighted that they were growing so well, but then it occurred to me that this might mean I run out of room too soon.  Do my chances of early labor go up if the babies are big??

 Thanks!

  • Your body will stretch to accommodate the twins.  Unless something medically goes wrong I don't see why they would come early.

  • A friend of mine is tiny like you.  Her twins weighed over 7 lbs each at birth and she made it to 38 weeks.  But with all of that weight/pressure on your cervix, you just never know.  Good luck.

  • Your body makes room some how. I am 5ft2in also I carried my triplets to 35 weeks they weighed 4lbs 5oz, 5lbs 2oz and 4lbs 11oz so a total over 14lbs plus all the extras. It can be done just try to rest as much as you can and stay off your feet to not put pressure on your cervix.

  • I am also petite and 5'3 and people say the EXACT same thing to me, even my nurse asked me where I was going to put the babies! I haven't had my babies yet but from what I have been told, your body is designed to accomodate and to just listen to your body when it needs rest.

  • i don't think so- my friend is 5'2" and weighed under 100 lbs pre-pregnancy with her twins. she carried to 38 wks and had to be induced, they both weighed over 5 lbs. i think your chances of labor won't go up, but their growth might slow down.

    congrats on big babies!

  • Nope...you'll just stretch out front to back more than up and down.  You'll be fine, and lots of petite women end up having big babies...even in singletons.  I've heard of tiny women pushing out 10 lbs babies ( singletons of course)
