Induction experiences?

Popping over from 3rd tri to ask a question about your induction experiences. With DS, my water broke the day before his EDD and was done in 7 hours. But, this time, it looks like we may be moving towards an induction. I've been 2cm, 50-60% effaced with baby girl already waay down low (head easily touched during cervical checks). My OB said it would just require pitocin/water breaking since my body was already "preparing"

I've read a lot about inductions but so many of the stories are when people's bodies aren't at all ready/doing anything before the induction. I was hoping someone on "this side" had an induction experience they could share where their body was already gearing up beforehand.

 Thanks!!

Re: Induction experiences?

  • I was induced on 9/12. I was already 4cm and about 95%. I went in at 11am and I was told by he dr I should have a dinnerime baby.

They started me on pitocin and for a couple hrs there was no progress. They had to break my water and still no real progress. They just kept upping the pit and finally at 9:02 pm. Had DD.

I was pretty far along when I got there but it didn't happen as quickly as they thought it would.

  • I was induced at 38 weeks because I was group b strept + and the DR wanted to control my labor to be sure I got 8 hours of antibiotics. I had a late term D/C prior to this pregnancy so at 38 weeks I was already 3 cm. I started the pitocin/antibiotics at 4:15pm, she was born vacuum assisted at 12:46 am. My advice to you is that if you are planning to get the epidural have them do it before they break your water. Breaking my water brought on the pain like 10 fold.

  • I was 3 cm 90. Pit started and water broken around 11pm. Got an epidural around 56 cm can't remember what time... Probably around 3 or so they ended up stopping my pit because my body kept contracting every 2 min without it. Started pushing around 730. Had to stop epidural because i couldn't tell how i was pushing. Had her at 1138 am.
Although i started at 3cm my baby was still really high. I'm also a ftm so it took me longer to push her out. Overall... I had a good experience and can't complain much.

  • I was only 1 cm dilated and baby still very high when I was induced and everything still went very quick.  They broke my water and started pitocin around 9am and I had him at 12:46pm.  It was a great experience for me :)
  • I had a great induction experience.  I was induced 2 days before my EDD but I was already 80% effaced and 2 cm dilated so my OB thought it would be fairly easy. She had me come to the hospital the night before to start on Cervidil to get my cervix fully ready with plans to start Pitocin in the morning.

3 hours after the Cervidil as inserted, my water broke and 4 hours later (after some very intense contractions and an epidural), I delivered my baby girl.  It went crazy fast, which I know isn't the norm for FTMs like me, but I highly recommend Cervidil if you're almost ready to go.  I never even got to the Pit part of it.

  • Thanks ladies! I feel much better about how things could go...it's hard when so much of what is out there are horror stories.
  • I was induced at 37 weeks de to cholestasis but I was already almost 4 cm when I went in.  They gave me pitocin starting at 8am and upped it every half hour because I wasn't really feeling any contractions.  At about 2 my doc broke my water and my little one was born 40 minutes later.  I only wish they had just broken my water at 8am when I got there so I didn't have to spend all those hours on ivs and monitors for nothing.

  • I actually just induced yesterday. My induction went really well actually. I was 38.5 weeks, 3cm dilated, and 90% effaced when I went in. I got to the hospital at 5:30am, got into the delivery room by 5:45am, hooked up to IV/started on pitocin by 6. My contractions weren't painful at all until I reached 8cm and I ended up getting the epidural. After that, everything was smooth sailing. At around 5pm, I was dilated to 10cm and ready to push! I pushed for about 1.5 hours and DD was finally born :) My labor and delivery was so peaceful, relaxing, and laid-back. DH, doctor, nurses, and I were all chatting and laughing in between contractions, haha!
