Thoughts on Soleil

I like this name, and it is in the running.  Will people know how to pronounce it?  Is there another acceptable spelling?  Overall, just kinda wondering how it will be received.  Thanks.

Soleil is one of my longest running favorite names. My youngest sister's MN is Soleil, after my suggestion! People may mispronounce it at first but they'll get it after being corrected and I wouldn't let that stop me from using it. Don't change the spelling, it's beautiful as it is.

I am a French teacher and Soleil is just so silly as a name to me. Since it's not used as a name in French-speaking parts of the world, it just comes off as kind of eye-rolling to me...like you just picked a random word in French because you like the way it sounds, or something. 

There is no other acceptable way to spell it.

I think most people will associate it with either Punky Brewster or Cirque de Soleil. I personally am not a huge fan of this as a first name but wouldn't completely side eye it as a middle name. I do think she will have trouble with people pronouncing and spelling it though growing up.

This. My first thought was Moon Frye. I don't mind it as a MN, but wouldn't suggest it as a first. Also, there is no other spelling that is acceptable.

Ditto. It's not my favorite but I don't think it's awful. I think use as a FN would be fine....

Thank you!!! I agree. My cousin and his wife named their daughter Soleil (they spelled it Solei however), and while it is pretty it is just not a name to me. It simply is not a name for a child in my opinion.
