Baby passed out?!

This is my first post but I read the Bump almost every single day (and usually always find the answers to my questions!) But the scariest thing happened this morning and I wanted to see if it has ever happened to anyone else. My baby (who just turned 2 mths yesterday) was sleeping on my chest and all of a sudden started screaming louder than I have ever heard (he's not really much of a crier typically).. I tried burping him thinking he has had a gas bubble and nothing, so I changed his diaper, but he was still screaming. He started turning a little blue and then must have passed out because all of a sudden it was like he fell asleep. His forehead was clammy, and he was limp- i was freaking out! I kept hitting his back and blowing in his face really hard (he would open his eyes a little bit every time I blew in his face).. finally he "came back around" (this really only lasted a total of prob a minute but felt like forever!!!) I called the Ped right away and they said it was normal, sometimes babies can cry so hard they typically "lose their breath" and he might have had a cramp or gas bubble which woke him up and that's why he started screaming in the first place. I have my 2 mth appt next week, but they also said if it happened again to call them asap...

I'm still really freaked out about it- I called my husband and made him come home, and now I will be making the baby wear the Halo at all times now (I've had it for about a month but he hasn't been wearing it lately).. I just wanted to see if it has ever happened to anyone else- this little man is my life and I'm so scared to let him out of my sight now!!!

  • Holy crap!  That would have scared me to death.  I'm glad he came back around, and your ped doesn't seem too concerned.  I hope it never happens again to you!

  • That would freak me out too, how scary!

I'm curious as to what you mean by making him wear the Halo at all times.  Are you talking about the sleep sack?

  • Oh sorry, I meant the Snuza Halo - I think they changed the name to Hero now? I had bought mine before they did the name change..

I literally keep checking him now every 5 mins (even though he's sleeping right next to me).. (and to think- I used to be super laid back, definitely not anymore!)

  • Oh my goodness, that would be so scary!!  Hope it doesn't happen again, and glad everything seems to be fine now!
  • you're not alone, my baby has done this a few times.. both were gas/poop related.. she went from sleeping, to awake screaming bloody murder, changing colors and clammy/sweaty, then she'd fart/poopand literally pass out like a rag doll.. freaked me out the 1st time, called doc, and same as u, they said not to worry :)

sorry for typos, typing with my left hand, baby asleep in right

  • He did it in the hospital right after he was born and stopped around day 3. The nurses said it was normal too...definitely scared the crap out of me though!
