Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Swaddle

My baby will be 4 weeks tomorrow and already can get his arms free when we swaddle him no matter how tight weak it. Right now we are using swaddlemes does anyone know any better ones. E s also a tall boy just shy of 22 inches and over 10 pounds

Re: Swaddle

  • We've been doing the super swaddle and it works really well. Here's the video:

  • I just have to add that our little guy (now 7 months) was not a fan of the swaddle. It worked for about the first week that we were home, and after many tears and sleepless nights, we started doing an arms out swaddle with an Aden and Adnais blanket, just swaddling from the armpits down.  It worked wonders for our guy - he just wanted his arms out, and was a great sleeper from 6 weeks on.  Can't be sure that's why, but it just wasn't worth the fight.  I know many are pro-swaddle, but just wanted to throw out there that it's not the only option :)
  • My little one liked to be swaddled for the first few days but now LOVES to have her arms out. I wanted to do a swaddle from armpits down to help transition her to her big new crib. They make a Swaddle Pod- which is a tight material with a zipper. If you want to keep his arms in this definitly will. I tried to zipper her all the way but she got mad she couldn't flail her arms and punch me so we just zippered from chest down. I think 10lbs is the weight limit but my little one has to be pushing 10lbs now and it fits her fine.

  • The miracle blanket. Its virtually impossible to break out of and it for like 0-6 months. So it'll last a while. They are expensive and I wasn't sure if we would like em (for $30 each) so I got 2 used off ebay for like $13 and we LOVE them. It makes swaddling dummy proof and makes baby so cozy

You can take a piece of fabric and wrap your LO's arms with your current swaddle underneath. Its the same principal as the miracle blanket yet you don't have to shell out the bucks for it. I saw it on a blog and it worked great for us!

  • DD hates to be swaddled but it helps her sleep longer. I have a bunch of swaddle me's also and she'd break her arms out as well. Before I feed her I put on the swaddle me up to her waist, and when she falls asleep I put her down on an AA blanket ready to go in a triangle, velcro up the swaddle me, and swaddle her again in the AA. She's never broken out of both layers.

  • I can only swaddle DD with her arms out. She doesn't like to be confined. With DS, we used swaddlemes, velcroed extra tight and often topped with another blanket swaddle, bc he was most chill when swaddled tightly.

  • We had the swaddle me's for a while but he outgrew them. The miracle blanket is difficult to get out of, but I think it confined him too much and it was a PITA to get him swaddled in - it also doesn't have any velcro or anything to attach the long piece with, so you have to find a place to tuck it which I wasn't a fan of. We have been using the halo sleepsack swaddles for a while now and I thought I would hate them but the velco pieces are large (unlike the swaddleMe) and stick really well and it's really easy to change his diaper in (also unlike swaddleMe). Plus it's fast. However the legs aren't as confined as the swaddleMe if your child likes that aspect of it.
