Awake time between naps

I'm still trying to find our awake period between his naps.  Even with lots of sleep signs he'll fight.  I'm trying earlier, later, everything.

How long does your LO go between naps during the day?
Where does LO nap, swing or bed?

Re: Awake time between naps

  • LO is awake for about an hour between naps.  At home he naps in his sleeper, on the floor, or in my arms.  Now that he is coming to work with me, he either naps on me or in my Ergo.  Occasionally, I have been able to get him to nap in his carseat, but he won't sleep on the floor of my office or in the swing.  I'm hoping that the swing will grow on him.

  • He goes 90 minutes between waking up from STTN and his morning nap, about 90 minutes between morning nap and afternoon nap 1, 60 minutes between afternoon naps 1 and 2, and then he dozes during the evening until bedtime. Morning nap is in his RnP, afternoon maps vary between RnP, swing and my arms when he's restless and just wants to cuddle skin to skin.
  • He's up for no more than an hour between naps. The only time of day he fights sleep is in the morning. During the day, I let him lay on his belly on me and he's out within minutes. No rocking required!

  • I'm obviously doing something wrong. Yesterday my eight week old daughter napped for 15 minutes. All day. She woke around 7am, slept for 15 minutes in the afternoon, and finally went to bed at 11pm. She only naps about two days out of the week. Otherwise she fights sleep like mad, despite every attempt on my end to get her to nap. It's crazy.

We are not at that extreme but close.  DS naps like crap during the day, 15-15m cat naps here & there then a huge snooze from about 4 to 7p.  There I try to do a quiet play time before putting him down for the night.

I've tried naps in the bassinet that he sleeps fine in at night, swing, etc. but I know that he's just awake too long.

Thanks ladies, I'll try to start to soothe around 45m with a goal of out at 1hr from waking.

  • I also must be doing something wrong because DS rarely naps. If he does it's an amazing day, but most of the time he is up from 7 or 8 am until I put him to sleep around 10-10:30 pm. I try everything, but he fights sleep like crazy. Occasionally I've gotten him to fall asleep for 15-20 cat naps in the Beco or in the swing. Yesterday he did take a 2 hr nap in the swing. If we go out, he'll usually fall asleep in his carseat, but depending it may only be 10 mins or it may be 2 hours. A few days ago he must have been exhausted, because he fell asleep from 5-9 pm. We put him in the RnP and he was out the entire time.

  • I start rocking him to sleep after an hour of awake time. Whether he falls asleep or not is a different story...

  • We go 4 hours etween feedings. He is usually awake about 90 mins then down for a nap until the next feeding. Trying to get him to nap in his crib today this could be a long day!!

  • Avery's wake times vary throughout the day. In the morning, she has her shortest wake time, about 45 minutes, then as the day goes on, it is about an 60-75 minutes. She sleeps in her crib for naps and bedtime but if I'm desperate and she has gotten off schedule and is cranked, I put her in the swing for her nap.
