Hi guys so I know I should really just go to the doctor, but I figured it would not hurt to ask here. Has anyone not ever felt the string to their Mirena? and has anyone not gotten their period while on it? I've had my Mirena now for about a year and I guess I'm freaking out now that it was never put in right. I had read months ago that if you can't feel the strings it's because the strings were cut short. But now that I did not get my period last month I'm slightly freaking out. Is it possible to get pregnant on it??
Re: Mirena question
It's always possible to get pregnant on birth control. The chances of getting pregnant on Mirena are very low, but still possible.
Many women don't have periods on Mirena. Some do. Everyone is different. I've had mine for a year now and in the last few months my periods have gotten very very light and short, maybe a day. I wouldn't be surprised if they disappear.
If you are concerned about not feeling the strings, call your doctor and ask to be checked. I bet they could get you in the same day and it wouldn't take but a few minutes.
Thank you for writing back so quickly:) I must sound so dumb:/ But I did read that that was possible that your period could get lighter and lighter until it didn't come anymore. What you explained happened exactly to me. I think my period the month before was only 2 days if that and super light.
But I will be calling the doctor today and making an appt! thank you again for your help:)
No problem. I hope you get in soon.
I want to say that if it was inserted incorrectly, you'd probably know/feel it. But I'm no doctor.
My friend had hers inserted incorrectly and she could tell. It was uncomfortable. She had to get it taken out and re-inserted a month later.
I've had mine since my PP visit and I haven't had a period yet, BUT I'm still BFing so I don't know which is keeping my period away?
I don't feel for the strings. oops. Just not on my list of activities, I guess? :-)
Hope you can get into the dr. soon to put your mind at ease.
