Tips for teaching baby to push up?

During tummy time I've noticed LO doesn't seem to move her arms at all. She stays face first into the carpet and kicks around before she starts crying. She can hold her head up fine when I put her in her Bumbo or when I hold her, but once she is flat on the floor, she just kicks around. Any tips on how I can get her to use her arms instead of her legs?

  • No, just let her develop on her own. She will get there. No need to interfere.

  • At my new mom's group yesterday, the leader told us to place baby's arms under her to encourage her to push up. I put her down on top of a rolled up receiving blanket, and placed her arms so that both hands were under her chin. She still hated it (always screams during tummy time), but she definitely pushed up on her arms!

  • My daughter does the same thing if I put her flat on floor. So i put LO on her tummy on the boppy pillow so she is inclined up a lil. and she lifts her head up and does about 10 min's of tummy time now. I put a colorful toy on floor for her to look at.  Hope that helps

  • You can roll up a receiving blanket and place it under her arm pits. This will help to support her so she can see around her. I saw great strides in my LO after doing this.
