cloth diapers - concerned

We are cloth diapering 3 week old LO using pre-folds and diaper cover. I only got regular sized diapers because I had heard and read that NB cloths are not sufficiently absorbent. We fold them down to size and they work like a charm.

The only problem is that the folded part down the center kind of separates her legs. It is folded relatively thick there and she can't put her legs together like with disposables (we used them for the first few days until we got our Snappis in the mail). My husband seems to think this will make her bow-legged.

He wants to use disposables until she is bigger. I really want to continue to cloth diaper, unless of course it will effect her. My mother and grandmother cloth diapered all of us, and none of us are bow-legged.

Any merit to this or is it at silly as I suspect..?

  • Have you tried a different fold? a bikini twist might help that bulk between her legs.

  • We are trying out this twisty fold to see if it seems more comfy and works as well as the newspaper fold. Thank you!

  • I was worried about it too at first. Now I use either the bikini twist or jelly roll. Much less bulky between the legs.

  • I used Cloth diapers with both of my boys from 10 days old.  Neither of them is bow legged.  I have also heard people worry that it will limit their child's mobility when they start learning to crawl and walk.  Both of my boys developed fine (if not early) with their gross motor skills.  Like pp said, ALL babies were Cloth Diapered until about 40 years ago.  Just embrace the fluffy butt!

I do have a few Bum Genius Newborn AIO diapers that I love because they are so trim.  I use them when I have an especially cute outfit that I want to look *right*.

  • We CD and DS1 looked super bow legged for the longest time and my dad swore it  was the CD's, but now his legs look fine. I think it just looks like their legs will go wonky, but it doesn't really do anything.
