White Noise Machine

I am thinking about getting one for my son actually I think it will be the Homedics Sound Spa from Target. If you use, or have used, a white noise machine, how does it work for your LO? Thank you!

Re: White Noise Machine

  • We have an app on our phone and iPad that's free called white noise light. It works really well, and it's free!

  • We also have the sleep sheep on-the-go and DD loves that thing, I like that I can bring it with me and it keeps her calm anywhere.

  • I have the Homedics one from Target and it works great!  I have the Sleep Sheep as well but the Homedic one is much better because there is a feature where you can leave it on (Sleep Sheep turns off after 45 minutes) and it also the projector which is kind of like a nightlight.  I rock him to sleep in the living room with a white noise app on my phone and then transfer him to the bedroom with the Homedics white noise machine which I leave on all night.  He is sleeping about 7 hour stretches.

  • I downloaded the Happiest Baby on the Block album from Amazon MP3 (but I'm sure you can get it on iTunes as well) onto my phone.  Only $7 and it has white noise tracks for bedtime and naptime, as well as louder ones that you can use when your baby is ultra fussy (I've only had to use that one once!).  I love it.

  • I have the soundspa in both nurseries. Ds1 still uses it for night and naps. I love it and it really helps get him to sleep and back to sleep if he wakes. It is small and easy to travel with too. I didnt want to use my phone because I dont want to leave it in his room all night and wanted to have something for when we have a sitter.

We use one of our iPods and ipod docks. I downloaded all sorts of music and white noise sounds and "babbling brook" is playing 24/7 in his room so I honestly dont know how it would affect him if we didnt have it playing at all. My husband joked today saying "Henry is probably thinking 'why is it always raining in my room?'" Either way, its nice and peaceful sounding so when we go in to change his diaper we can leave it or switch it over to some Beatles that he likes and then switch it back to the white noise sounds when we are in a calm mood. I like using the ipod for that reason. We also have some of the baby classical music on there.

  • I have the Munchkin one from Amazon. It also plays lullabies and projects images. It has a timer or you can leave it on all night. It was 20 dollars.
  • I used the Homedics one from Target with both kids and it was the best 20 bucks I spent on baby items! My oldest is 2 & a half and doesn't need it anymore, but my 20 month old loves it and still uses it every night and at nap time. I highly recommend it!
