How often does your LO eat during the day and are they bf or ff?

I ask because DD2 is breastfed and usually eats every 2 hours during the day. Sometimes she doesn't even make it to 2 hours. She has been very sleepy today and so I've been conflicted as to weather I should wake her up at the 2 or 3 hour mark to eat? This is the second longest nap today and so far, I've decided to wake her up when its been 3 hours but I always worry that the night feedings will be worse if I don't keep to the 2 hour schedule.. What are your thoughts and what do you do?

  • I'm not sure what the full title is because I'm on my phone but I'm assuming by the pp youre asking how much LO eats.
Calli eats every 3 hours. She is BF and drinks some pumped bottles. I wake her to feed her at the 3 hour mark but usually she wakes up on her own. That is to make sure she gets all her feedings during the day so she sleeps at night.

  • DD is 9 weeks old and breastfed. She eats about every 3 hours during the day although sometimes the last 2 feedings before bed are only 2 hours apart. She's been sleeping longer at night (6-7 hours) and even did 8 hours last night! I very rarely wake her to feed, she's growing and gaining weight fine and she'll tell me when she's hungry. I'd say it's fine to go 3 hours during the day.

  • I would take what I have to say with a grain of salt b/c the amount and frequency to feed is what I feel like I am most insecure about.

Right now because he's sleeping long stretches at night (5-7) hours, he gets fed about 7 times a day and usually around the same times b/c he usually wakes up around 5AM.

Right now I'm giving him 4 oz of either BM or formula.  The pedi and LC kept acting like this was a lot, but it's hard to tell if I'm overfeeding or if he's spitting up b/c of reflux.  I tried going back to 3-3.5 oz and it made everyone miserable.  Even w/ 4oz per bottle he's not gaining weight very fast.

If he continues to plateau in his weight gain I guess I'm going to have to start waking him out of his long stretch to eat.

  • My pedi said not to wake the baby up to eat so if she's asleep I don't worry about it. She always wakes up by around 3 hours anyway though. If she didn't wake up by then I would probably wake her up because I get nervous if I feel like its been too long. I think she eats around 3-4 oz when she does a good solid feeding, but I only think that because thats how much I usually get when I pump, but I rarely pump, I usually just bf.

  • LO is EBF, and eats about every 3 hours during the day, but his nursing sessions are always 1-1.5 hrs long, so when he's finally done its only a short break before he's ready to eat again. He cluster feeds in the evenings, then it's about every 1.5-2 hours, so there really isn't a long break between when he's done and when he wants to go again. He sleeps 4.5-6 hours, has one MOTN feed, and then is back to sleep until the morning.

  • DD gets all breastmilk, but some from a bottle and some from the breast. When she eats from the breast, it holds her for about 2 hours. When she eats it from a bottle, she lasts 3 or 3.5. I think it is because she gets lazy when my flow slows down at the breast and stops eating a little short of the 100mL she gets in a bottle. Then at night, she often cluster feeds between about 8 and 11 pm, eating smaller amounts every 45 min to an hour.

  • I EBF, and DS eats about every two hours during the day, every three (occasionally four) hours at night.  I don't ever wake him to eat.
  • I ebf and Avery eats every 3 hours during the day. In the evening she will eat every 1.5 to 2 hours and then her night sleep is all over the place. I had a week of 8 hour stretches, now it's more like 5 to 6 hour stretches. I do wake her during the day at the 3 hour mark to feed her unless her nap started late and she needs the sleep.

    Also she is 9 weeks
