bringing awareness to IF

i'm all for bringing awareness to illnesses, but i think some illnesses get more attention than others.

for example, i'm always see fundraising, awareness programs for mostly breast cancer, but not nearly enought for other illnesses,  autism, alzheimers, other cancers, and IF.

i just feel like IF gets swept under the rug and i remember resolve.org even mentioned that it's often ignored, even by the medical community.

i hope to get involved in bringing awareness (when my LO gets older). i hope to see more and more awareness and dialogue on this topic. certainly we've come a ways since our parents generation, but there's more to be done.  i feel it's an epidemic and people don't take it seriously, because they think there's always a 'fix' to it.

i have seen REs talk about IF in the media, but they nearly don't emphasis the emotional toll and life changing journey that it can be.

even in my personl life, i've noticed that people take any other illness seriously, but somehow dismiss IF and expect you to move forward with your life as if it's just a hic-up or something.

thoughts?  pls don't think i don't appreciate breast cancer awareness, because i certainly do and i think it's great. it's just that sometimes people are enduring other illnesses and there's not much awareness brought to it.

Re: bringing awareness to IF

  • My thoughts are that people dismiss IF as a disease because it isn't life threatening. People who don't understand don't realize that I deserve to live my life the way I dreamed just as much as the next couple.

I try to be open about my struggles because you never know who you might be able to help. There will always be negative nellies but I intend to raise awareness so that my friends don't have to suffer in silence.

  • This has been on my mind a lot, bringing awareness to IF.  I allowed everyone who is a friend of mine on facebook to fully know what I was up to during the IVF with my son.  I am doing the same with the IVF we are currently undergoing.  I have been thanked by a bunch of folks.  It's just that I personally know a bunch of folks who have dealt with IF in some way but for so many of them it is a shameful, almost taboo, thing to talk about and admit to.

  • Also, OP, your son is so adorable in that outfit.  I love that even his binkie is white :-)
