Yeast question

How long does it usually take to clear up using nystatin? We got a prescription a week ago and I've been using it 3xday and using desitin all other changes. She's been in disposables. I'm airing her when I can. I use tissue to dry her off between changes. Not sure what else to do here.

Re: Yeast question

  • Nystatin didn't work for us... it kept the yeast at bay meaning it didn't spread but I used it religiously for 2 months... called the doc several times with a "just keep doing what you're doing" response. I switched docs, went in, they told me to use otc lotrimin it was gone in 2 days. Some babies don't respond to nystatin, its worth asking about.

We had the same issue, only with opposite products. I used the Lotrimin and nothing happened, then used OTC Monistat cream, and the rash was clear in two days.

  • Try something else.

My dr. wouldn't even give me Nystatin. He said it's actually less effective than most OTC.

He had me rotate the external Monistat Cream and Lotrimin along with adding a cup of vinegar to the bath water. It was gone by day 3 and really good by a week.

It did try her skin out, but plain vitamin e oil worked great for that too.

  • Nystatin cleared it up for us in a few days. However, I liked the previous posters use of alternating Monistate and lotromin. I bet that would nip it in the bud very quickly
