Freezer stash

After dealing with feeding issues and subsequent low supply with DS, I'm trying to be more proactive this time around and started pumping this week. I've been pumping in the morning when my supply is highest, but I'm curious what others are doing to build up an extra stash before returning to work.

Re: Freezer stash

  • Yep - I started after the first week and each morning I pump one breast for about 15-20 minutes and freeze that.  Baby eats off the other one and that is usually enough.  I'm hoping to get a few oz each day before going back to work. I also figure I can use it if I need to be out longer and baby needs to take a bottle in my absence.

  • I do the same --- pump one side while she feeds on the other. I EP at night and sometimes I get a little extra.

  • I have a stash of @ 300 oz.  I pump 1-2X times a day to build my supply.  My LO dropped a feed at night as she sleeps 6-8 hours now.  I still pump that feed and get @ 4-6 oz which I add directly to my stash.  Waking up sucks but I have a nice stash from it! I will sometimes pump in the morning after her first feed too.  I dont always do the morning pump because it depends on how hungry she is, if she feeds of both breasts, how much time I have etcf....

Is there an advantage to pumping one side while she feeds on the other vs. feeding her then pumping both? She usually only takes one side, but I've just been feeding her then pumping both sides after.

I have noticed that I get more if I pump while he eats versus pumping after.

  • DS nurses and goes to bed at 7:30pm so I pump at 9:30pm before I go to bed. I get between 5-6 oz then. I've been doing this daily since DS was 3 weeks old, so I already have over 200 oz stored in my deep freezer. I also did this with DD and it worked out perfectly when she was little as well. I even had plenty of milk stored with DD that I went on an 8 day vacation and still had plenty left over.
