did starting solids help LO STTN?

DD usually sleeps from 9ish to maybe midnight or 1 AM, wakes for a feeding, and then wakes every 1.5 to 3 hours for the rest of the night. It's rough getting through the day with three kids sometimes! I was going to start solids at 5 or so months, but if it would help cut down her night feedings, I'll start now.

My other two DDs STTN by two months, so I don't really know if solids aid in sleeping.

  • It didn't help my older two.

  • I could have written your post!! Then we started rice cereal. i started in the morning to make sure it didnt upset her stomach. Then after 3 days I offered it to her at night rather than in the morning. Her routine is now bottle, bath, cereal. She slept from 8:30-4:45, then a bottle, then back to sleep until 8:30 this morning. It was the BEST sleep I have gotten in a LONG time!!

  • We've been eating rice cereal and fruit combo for a little over a week now and he is not STTN but he is sleeping more soundly.  There was a 2-3 week period where he would wake up fuss for a little bit then go back to sleep like 5x a night on top of his one feeding.

  • Ha ha.... Nope! Never helped with DD1. And so far DD2 is the same. We started oatmeal last week and she has been such a bad sleeper the past month. I really think its teething related though.

  • We tried oatmeal cereal for about a week and I swear it made her sleep worse! She would wake up for the first time before midnight and wake every 2 hours the rest of the night. Could be related to something besides the cereal, but seeing as it definitely didn't help I am not going to keep feeding it to her and hopefully when we start fruits and veggies around 6 months maybe that will do the trick!

  • My LO has been STTN since he was 8 weeks... however, this past week he has been waking up...I at first thought maybe he is going through the 4 month wakeful period and I just needed to suck it up, but he would down a whole six ounce bottle in ten minutes and be fast asleep again until the morning. so i realized he was hungry. he was just getting up for a quick bottle and back to sleep he went.

i decided to start adding cereal to his diet since he is almost four months. i started in the morning to make sure he had no allergies. then i started to give it to him an hour before his last bottle of the night...so our new routine is cereal, bath, book, bottle and bed. he is back to STTN. :)
