How to get this transverse girl to turn?!

A little back story - This is baby #4 and I'm hoping to do it as naturally as possible. I live 1/2 block from the hospital, so currently, my plan is to stay home until I can't anymore. I have always stalled at 6-ish centimeters, then they start pitocin drip which leads to having to have an epidural or interthecal since the pain gets so horrible that I can't control it. Then I start to throw up.

I'm really hoping to avoid all this with baby girl, but she refuses to move from transverse! She has not once gone head down from what I can tell as I've always been kicked in the low side. Had an ultra sound today and sure enough, she is head on the right, butt on the left facing slightly towards my front/slightly on her back. My doctor wants to see her turned by my next appointment in two weeks. Anyone have any advice on how I can get this girl to turn? I've been doing light yoga (I have some bad pelvic pain, probably because of how she's laying, so I do as much as is comfortable). I really want to avoid a manual version as my aunt had one and said it was not worth it and it didn't work.

  • You still have lots of time to go, so she very well may move on her own. In both of my pregnancies with transverse babies OB and CPM were not worried unless I hit 37 weeks (which happened w/ DS1) But, that isn't what you asked. Wink

Chiropractor who knows Webster technique, moxibustion, Spinning Babies website tricks. I did a version at 37 weeks with DS1 and it was successful. While the first suggestions are your gentlest bet, if you have no more options left know that versions have a very low risk factor (much less than a c-section that will happen if baby stays transverse) and they have a higher success rate with transverse babies than breech.

With DS2, I think that chiro care and time helped him move out of transverse around 32 weeks.

  • Love the other suggestions here, but downward dog, too. That yoga pose is upside-down enough that it gives low LOs a little wiggle room. Try peddling your legs to get some good stretching in and keep breathing!
