Does your preschool have this?

Does your preschool/daycare give report cards?

Does your preschool/daycare have guests like a dentist to show care for teeth or a story teller?

Does your preschool give music shows with the children like a halloween sing along?

Does your preschool have any programs or events or things out of the ordinary that you feel are important?

I am trying to decide between 2 centers near my house.  One has a much higher monthly cost and I wonder why and if it is worth the extra money.  They both have great outside play areas.  The costly one has a larger room for the kids to play inside.  Are these standards at a preschool type center?

  • Ours offers all of the above. Granted, Baby C isn't old enough to enjoy most of those things yet, but we did get his first report card yesterday :)

Ours also has private webcam access so we can see what's going on during the day.

  • We don't get report cards, but we do get a daily report of his day - feeding, sleeping, diapers and what he did like singing, reading, dance, etc.

We have three family events during the year - in the fall it was a potluck, hay ride and painting pumpkins.  December they have Christmas program with the kids singing, etc.  Spring is another potluck and program.

Why not ask the director of the more expensive daycare why it is more?

  • No report cards but we do have conferences twice a year.

We have guests that come in.  The pres schoolers just had a police officier in this week.  You can also sign your kids up for extras at a fee.  My DD has taken a soccer class which she love and they also do dance and Spanish.  They also have a person that comes in about once every month or two who does story time and songs and stuff.  A few times a month they have local musicians come as well.

My center includes everything other than diapers - all food, formula, wipes, snacks, etc are included which is awesome.  I love it.

  • no report card - I can't see the point in giving a four year old a C+ in cutting.

Developmental Checklist- yes, you can see where your child is on a scale, but no one fails. It is used to individualize activities to meet monthly goals (that don't have to be met, the child still doesn't fail).

Daily Sheets - nap, eat, activities, classroom job, happy moment from the day, note from the teacher.?

2?conferences?a year to discuss strengths and areas to work on, go over results of screenings (they do vision, hearing, speech, developmental, and social emotional/behavior) and establish family's goals for the child that they would like the school to work on.

Classroom guests are up to the teacher, there are funds to bring people in if the a teacher wants. They have had firefighters, dental?hygienist, nutritionist, police, dancer, and musicians.

The children do not do shows, although if a class of children got really interested in something they wanted to preform it might be arranged. I might pay more if the shows are arranged by an actual music teacher.

There are?monthly?family group meetings, where parents decide how to spend the parent fund money, suggest things to the center, and vote to remove staff from initial probation 6 months after hire.?

They have a big room to play in when it rains, with some gross motor equipment.?

  • No report cards-just a daily report of eating, sleeping, temperament for the day (happy, hungry, sleepy, "needed lots of hugs", etc).  We'll have conferences (I can't remember how often) when he's older.

They've had various guests-police officers, fire fighters, players from the local university football and hockey teams, animal rescue league...

They have a potluck type activity a couple times a year--I'm not sure what the activities are there (we haven't gone to one and DS is only 1).

The center has a bus, so older kids can go on field trips--they go to the zoo, parks, and other local places.

  • Infant-2's have daily reports.  3's-Kinder have report cards and conferences.

We have guests throughout the year and field trips for 3's-Kinder.

There's a Christmas Program, Spring Program, and Kinder graduation.

There's Family Game nights, a Halloween parade, a Christmas festival, a center Bday celebration w/entertainment...

When they start to eat table foods lunch and 2 snacks are provided.

Our center is part of church so there's also Sunday school, a nursery, potlucks, a blessing service for the teachers, and lots of stuff the church plans.

  • not report cards, but they do parent teacher conferences 2x a year.

Yes, they have special guests, programs, field trips, pictures, foreign language instruction and we can pay extra for dance, computer or tumbling classes at the school if we want.

They do holiday programs that the parents can attend, they hold curriculum and parent education nights, too.  I love that they do all of this!  I think it helps the parents feel like they have a role in their DC's education.  I don't feel like we pay extra for this, though.  But, we are very fortunate that we have found a fantastic school for a very reasonable price.
