My 11 week old was dx with colic at 3.5 weeks. Doc told us to try probiotics. So we did. After 2.5 weeks, her symptoms didn't change. In fact, in one night she SCREAMED 6 hours straight. After that, we took her to the doc and he said she had reflux and put her on Zantac. She had been doing great up until the end of last week. I can hear her little belly gurgling and she is farting so much and her farts are ssssoooo loud! Yesterday, I got one of her farts confused with my husband's! I can tell she is in pain. She wakes p out of a sound sleep crying and arching her back and pulling her knees up. Or she will doze off and be woken up by this. We tried the gas drops when she was first dx'd with Colic but they didn't work. She is on 100% Similac "Sensitive" (she couldn't latch and I didn't produce). I feel so bad for my little one! Has anyone else felt with this? I don't know if I should try the drops again...
Re: What's up with the farts?
Zantac is weight sensitive so if she's gained weight she could need the dose increased. L had colic, bad gas, silent reflux and is MSPI. Because of the milk/soy intolerance she's on enfamil nutramigen, which is also supposedly for colicky babies too. Similac makes alimentum which is also hypo allergenic. They are more expensive but it helped. Check them out online.
Have you tried colic calm gripe water? We put gas drops in every bottle, still do. It's good that she's farting! Better than keeping it in. One more thing is to try the colic massage after each nap, look on YouTube how to do it. It helped us.
Ls colic went away around 8 weeks. She's still on zantac. Hang in there, it does get better!
Thanks for the 411! I haven't tired gripe water yet. Doc said that if the gas drops wouldn't work, the gripe water might not either but that was when she was 4 weeks old (she is 11 now). Just started the gas drops again. When she was dx'd with colic her farts were never like this. I wonder why the sudden flare up? I thought she would out grow this. I am nervous because she is gassy and fussy and she starts daycare next week. Like it wasn't hard enough now I have to leave her with someone when her belly hurts
( Sigh.
