A bit bummed out about 38 week appt today...

Had my 38 week appointment today. Although I am a fingertip dilated, the baby has not moved down at all (last week I had to go for a surprise u/s because dr was worried the heartbeat was so high) Also, this baby has been measuring very large, which I know is always an estimate, but due to some previous complications the dr is monitoring this carefully. I currently have a fibroid that is 3/4 the size of the baby, so I've been sent for another ultrasound this Monday to see if I need to be induced before the end of next week. It wouldn't be the worst as next week is already 39 weeks, but the dr. thinks that between the baby's size (I think around 85%?) and the large fibroid, she doesn't want me to go much longer. However, she was very honest about how unpleasant the induction might be, and she herself admitted that if she can let me go on my own she will (just not past 40 weeks, ha). So it all depends on how everything looks this Monday. I'm trying to not get upset or worried, but I've been so anxious and nervous these past few days, crying over everything! I was just hoping for a more positive appt.

And if you made it this far, you deserve a cookie. And cake. Thanks for listening!

  • I'm so sorry to hear that! It's so hard being so far along and then to have these kinds of appts.  I can relate - my dr thinks I'm bordering on GD but I pass all the tests.  Last appt baby measured at 95% and I have a lot of excess fluid... talking possible early induction, talking with a dietician, extra appts, etc.

At this point we all deserve to have our natural occurring labors...

    Hang in there!  Almost done!

  • That's awful about the fibroid too!  Will they be able to take it out after you have the baby?

Yes - apparently it's a separate surgery Sad but I'm hoping to get it done while my mom is still here so she can help me during recovery. Not looking forward to it but it definitely needs to get done, especially if I want to get prego again.

  • I just write this same post (for the most part) above. I sympathize with you. We need some good labor dust!
