carrier that is good for the back

I have a k'tan which I like but DS is getting too big and it hurts my back.  I don't really want to spend a ton and I want something that is easy to put on and off and can wear him facing front or torward me.

  • There are many more knowledgeable than me but as your DS gets heavier you are really going to want him facing you otherwise your center of gravity will be too far forward and hurt your back.  I did the wraps with DD1 but this time I am really liking the Mai Tai (home made but there are many nice ones on the market) for easy on/off in the parking lots and such.  I am using my Ergo a lot now too.

  • My siggy link has info on different carrier types you may find helpful.  I would ditto the point that a forward facing position is very hard on your back.  I think a more supportive carrier will make a big difference.  You might also consider a high back carry as that can be easier on the back as well - and it will give baby a nice view over your shoulder.  For that you will need either a woven wrap or mei tai to get him nice and high.  For a back carry in a buckle carrier, baby needs to be able to sit unassisted since they sit lower on your back.
