Natural Birth

For those who encapsulated their placenta

What was your experience? Do you think there was an actual difference for you in dealing with hormones, PPD, or baby blues? (Especially to STMs+ who took the pills after one pregnancy and not another.)

Did anyone take their placenta pills and still deal with PPD?

My good friend was recently diagnosed and hospitalized for PPD 3mos after her twins were born. I'm terrified that it will also happen to me! I'm almost certain I want to have mine encapsulated, but I'd love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

  • Yes, I did notice a difference. I missed 2 days and could tell a difference. They also have helped me now when I get sad on some days still.

  • I did it and loved it.  It helped with the baby blues the first couple of weeks and I could tell the difference on the days I did not take them. My doula did it for me and said all of her clients had positive experiences taking them as well.
  • Thanks ladies! I'm sure I want to do it this time- it's good to know that you definitely felt a difference!

  • I did mine this time when I hadn't previously (and hadn't previously had PPD). I coudn't take it for the first few weeks though; the woman that did mine said to not take it when sick or with an infection and I had a cold immediately after birth, followed by mastitis. But once I started taking it I noticed an immediate difference. I felt better and much more energized and positive. It gave me focus, which certainly helped me keep up with my 2 older LOs and a newborn.

  • I did not suffer from PPD.  I am not sure if the encapsulated placenta had anything to do with it or not, but I figure it didn't hurt.  It did help with my milk supply and I felt great from the start.  I'd highly recommend doing it.  I would not hesitate to do it again.

  • I've felt really good, and have been having a great recovery. I'm only 6 days post labor though, so I don't have a lot of data.

Since this is my first, I don't have anything to compare it to, but I have a close friend who also did it only with her 2nd and she said it has made a huge difference.
