my child loves his flip flops. everywhere we go, people are all, "oooooh look at his little flip flops! they're so cute!!" he's just like his mom. i have a no sock policy that stays in effect from april-oct. if it didn't look ridiculous, i'd just wear flip flops all the time. anyway, the problem is that my kid has apparently inherited my general dislike of shoes. he likes to let his toes roam free. plus he has extra wide feet so i can't cram his feet into regular shoes.
i need some advice - what are some super comfy shoes i can try out with my poor baby? and how can i force him into wearing real shoes? it's starting to get cold here. i bought him tiny chuck taylors and they seem to fit fine, but whenever i try to put them on, he grunts, "shoooooooooooes... OFF!" and rips them off.
Re: A shoe dilemma
Can you go to a consignment shop and see?
My kids are HUGE free-feeters and they enjoy Merrills. But those sh!ts are expensive, so I find them at consignment shops where other awesome parents willing to spend the money have begrudgingly taken them when their children refuse to wear them.
They're ugly, but I live in Colorado. Ugly shoes are the norm here.

grr - do those things come in extra wide? they look comfy but i don't think i could squeeze his marshmallow feet into them.
ash - thanks for reading! i still laugh about that. the dumb thing is that i keep trying to force it now, so i'll like fart in front of him and be all, "hey! do you think moomy pooped her pants? COME ON!!!!" it's bad.
Tsukihoshi is our go to brand generally, comfy soft meshy style shoes, machine washable and they run large in both size and width in their standard sizing. DD adores hers and we have a hard time getting her out of them unless we can replace them with more of the same.
See Kai Run (or Kai's for older kids) are great, comfy, last well and they run wide normally anyway.
I either wait till I can get a pair on sale on Amazon or there is a place in the city (Lincoln Square) called Piggy Toes and she tends to clearance stuff out pretty frequently or do stuff like buy 3 pairs for 100 bucks so they end up around 30 bucks a pair which I can at least swallow. If you let me know what sizes you are looking for I can keep an eye out next time I head over there in a week or so.
They're pretty wide naturally, I think. Not sure if you can buy them wide.
They are also tough as nails. My son's went through the river a dozen times, mud, dust, dirt, dragged toes, etc. and they still look new. It's kind of disturbing.

I know Traget does the summer crocs for a lot less - maybe they do the winter too?
