WIC and short term disability

FYI - if you are using STD insurance when on maternity, you may qualify for WIC. With being the sole income I thought I would call and check on it today to help the STD money go a little further once it arrives and at least in IL they confirmed that they will use that income as eligibility for us. Every little bit helps so thought I'd pass on the info to anyone else that might be able to use it.

  • Hmmm... that is interesting. I wonder if we'll make the cut-off with that. You are smart, I would have never of thought to check on that! Thank you!

  • I signed up for WIC almost right away! And as long as you qualify, you can get it until the child is five.

An added bonus for me was since I quit smoking once I was pregnant, they have a program for diaper vouchers; every month prenatal you meet with them, and if you haven't been smoking, each month post partem you get a diapers voucher. so, I quit smoking, and now I can get free diapers!

  • this is helpful, thanks. I was looking into WIC myself.

  • Great info! Unfortunately we don't qualify with my full time wage (we are over by less than $300 gross/yr - gotta love it) and I've never smoked but that's really great to know they give you that benefit as well. Congrats on quitting smoking!!!
  • I get WIC for DD and when she was a infant they covered enough formula for the month. And she was a big eater. They also provide cereal and baby food. The only thing is you only get them at a certain age and DD started them earlier then they provided them. Still nice to have them though. This is in PA
