How much/long did your DS stay in each size?

Ok so I am diaper stocking :)  How long or how many packages did you go through in:

Newborn

Size 1

Also what brand did  you use?  I am a 3rd time mom but my youngest is 9....so I really really do not remember this stuff!  My DD's weighed 7# and other 7# 13 oz, both 21 inches long.

  • DS was 10 lb 6 oz and 22" when he was born.  We used 1 pack of newborn (Luv's) and the small pack (Pamper's) that was leftover from the hospital. Currently, DS is still wearing size 1.  We've used maybe 8-9 packages so far.  Many were shower gifts, so we've used Huggies, Pampers, Walgreens, Luv's, and Parent's Choce.  So far we haven't had issues with any specific brand.

Good question. I'd like to see more responses to this so I can buy a bunch of 1's in bulk once we get there. DS is 3 weeks and he's still in NB. He was 7lbs even at birth.

We've only tried Pampers and Huggies. We had a lot of leak problems with Huggies.

  • DD was 7lb 8oz and was 19" long and we went through 2 of the "big" boxes of NB pampers swaddlers, a 50 ct Luvs, plus two little packages of swaddlers like the ones they give you in the hospital (one of those was the one we got from the hospital), at about a month she was in size 1s. At 2.5 months we are still in 1s and are going onto our 3rd box of 180 swaddlers, after going through a 36ish ct of huggies. I prefer the swaddlers because I can get a good deal on the ct at walmart, though I liked the huggies waistband, but I haven't had any trouble with the pampers (though DD can sometimes "out wet" them, after STTN but that can be more because she needs a 2 at night)

  • Our baby was 7 lbs 5 oz 20 inches at birth and growing great, almost three months and getting close to 12 lbs now and we actually still have her in newborns pampers. The size 1s are still big. So I think its just different for everyone.
  • We are on box 8 of newborn pampers! We were given 3 smaller packages at the hospital. Lo was 4lb3oz the day we came home! I keep telling DH I'm sure this will be last box of newborn....

    IT'S A GIRL

  • I use Pampers. I've tried Huggies and don't like them as much. DD was 7 lbs 13 oz at birth and I believe I moved her to size 1's at 3 weeks. At her one month check she was 10 lbs. Currently at 6 weeks she's still in 1's and they fit perfect.

ETA: She was 20 inches at birth and 22 at her one month check.

  • DS was 6 lb 10oz  and 19.25in at birth will be 2mths old on Friday and still wears newborn diapers.  I prefer pampers swaddlers.  I can not seem to make huggies tight enough to stay up around his waist and thighs.

  • My twins were 4lb 3 and 4lb 15, all I can tell you is we went through A LOT of diapers, but we're still in newborns, both now 8lb at 8 weeks ...they were 6.5 weeks preemie. As with my first, we are sticking with pampers. Love the swaddlers because it keeps the contents of their diaper off little bums better, and they aren't so thick and bunchy. Luvs are good, not thick or bunchy either but we didn't start using them until size 3 with my first. And target brand. Really don't like Huggies, never have. We just used some that were passed down to us because their 8lb newborn boy was leaking out of them, ours never had a leaking problem, but they did with those diapers! They went up to size 1 but the problem was most likely the brand of diapers. I do however find that Huggies coupons are easier to come by than pampers... i do like the Huggies wipes, and you can't stock up on too many of them! Hope this helps!
Oh also we use on average 100 diapers a week. So probably 50 a week for a singleton is a safe estimate! And just thought I'd mention I love our arm Hammer diaper pail...
  • My sweet angel is 3 weeks today. We are still in newborns. She weighed 7.2 at birth. We've tried huggies and pampers and I prefer pampers. The huggies don't stay in place as well. I've used up all my pampers and are giving the huggies another try now that she's a little bigger but the others may be going back if the issues continue!!
  • Great question!  I was actually looking for a blog like this back in July, but couldn't find one.

My baby was 7.5 lbs 19 in. at birth and could have easily used nb diapers until 6 wks then she had a huge growth spurt and finally fit into her 0-3 mo clothes.

I didn't expect her to be so tiny for so long with my husband and I being pretty tall 5'9" and 6'4". We weren't prepared clothes or diaper wise for her to stay in nb for so long.
