Dads & Dads-to-be

So, we had a fun night

We got home from a day at the pumpkin patch and hanging out with my brother, and soon to be sister, in-laws and my wife started getting sharp pains in her abdomen.  She's not one to admit pain much, so I knew it was bad.  So bad, it took us to the emergency room.  Turns out, she has gall stones, I guess something common with pregnancy, and runs in her family.  Not a fun evening watching my wife in pain, but we did get an ultrasound and found that the baby is OK.  But, turns out gall stones are going to potentially be a problem throughout the rest of the pregnancy and will likely need her gall bladder removed shortly after the birth of our child.  Very stressful evening.

  • Yikes!  Glad the baby is ok.  Will they be able to manage her pain/discomfort through the end of the pregnancy?

  • I feel her pain!!!

A few years back I went to the ER for bad stomach pain... I went into surgery a few days later (I wasn't pregnant then)... Come to find out I had 32 gall stones along with sludge...

I hope she starts to feel better!!! and Im glad the baby is ok!

The best they can do right now is try to use diet to prevent flair ups, it isn't a constant pain situation.  She is on a no fat diet today and tomorrow. After that, she goes on a low fat diet for the duration of the pregnancy.  Low fat, no spicy for the next 5 months, or else it could potentially flair back up.  Otherwise, she should be relatively good.

  • My wife had to do the diet change thing with her gestational diabetes.  She actually really got into it and still does follow it as much as she can.

Complications that come up during pregnancy suck, for sure. All we can do is support our wives as best we can as they go through this journey.  The hard part is not being able to do anything about it, as husbands.

  • Oh, that is the fun part... she was gestational diabetic last time, which means at some point, she is very likely to get there again, which means she'll have to manage a low carb AND low fat diet, which means she'll be eating hay like a horse or something for the duration of the pregnancy.

My wife took a class and actually starting losing weight in the last month or so of her pregnancy. It was amazing, and she actually embraced it totally.  She cut out breads, pasta, sugars and fruits and that was about it.

Since she was going through this during the summer, I grilled out steaks and other lean meats almost nightly, so we ate pretty well.
