Switching From Bottle To Sippy?

My DS has never really been a big fan of his bottle, so I think I could take it away from him w/o him even noticing...the problem is that he's not good at drinking out of a sippy and I don't want him to miss out on the nutrition (WCM or formula).  He's had a sippy for months now and he'll take a couple sips but then just teeth on it more than anything.

Anyone else have this issue?  What are you going to do?  I feel like by the time DS starts drinking out of a sippy he'll be like 2!  And, he's really small, so I worry about him not getting enough calories.

    Yes

I'd say try one, we use the Playtex The First 'lil Gripper cups. They are great too because mom can squeeze the sides of the cup to force the liquids up while LO is still learning to use it.

This is the only sippy DD will take, plus it's better in the long run for tooth and jaw development. They actually recommend having children use straws (mainly for sugary drinks) until they're adults because it makes it so the bad-for-your-enamel/teeth-sugars etc. come in significantly less contact with their teeth, so the damage caused on their enamels and of course cavities isn't nearly as severe as drinking straight out of cups/bottles/cans etc.

  • I thought DS would never get the hang of his sippy, but just a few days ago he has really started to drink from it. A few ounces per sitting rather than a few drops like he had been doing. Just keep trying the sippy, when he's ready, he'll get it.
  • Just try different brands. DS has no idea what to do with some of them, but goes to town with the Nuk one. He likes the straw cup, but doesn't have the hang of it all the time.

This! We started our DD with the Nuk sippy (has a rubbery spout more similar to her bottle). Once she got the hang of that we transitioned her to the Playtex sippy with the more rigid spout. We tried the straw sippy, which she likes but it leaks so we stay away from it for the most part. It took her months to master the tilting up of the sippy cup, but she eventually got there.
