Teething?

Mommies who's LOs are teething, how do you know? I asked my Pedi and she said no, but my DD has been a cranky drooly chewing on her hands mess for the past few weeks. Do you all see teeth coming in? I just want her to be happy again and this plus the 4 month wakeful has got me worried that it will be forever until that happens.

Re: Teething?

  • We are kind of in the same boat. Our ped told us that they can start "pre-teething" loooong before they actually cut a tooth. DD has been chewing and drooling for a month now. I keep feeling her gums, but there is nothing there.

  • I was told teeth can shift around a lot before actually breaking through, plus the gums stretch and expand. This causes the "pre-teething" discomfort that makes babies drool, fuss and get runny noses, just like if they were teething without anything breaking through.

We're there now as well. Some nights with a runny nose that's gone by morning, tons of whining and drooling while trying to stuff her whole bib in her mouth. Poor muffin; breaks my heart.

  • My daughter just had her first tooth come up on Saturday. I thought that she was teething and my pedi said no too, but 4 days later she had a tooth! Looking back, she was really fussy, drooling and if you put your finger in her mouth, she was chewing on it. I could feel 2 small bumps on her gums too. Since I believed the pedi, I didn't give her Tylenol or frozen teethers, but I will trust my mommy instinct next time. I have a friend who uses frozen organic sweet potato fries as teethers. Obviously you watch them while they are gumming them, but sounded like a good idea to me. Good luck!
  • My LO has been drooling like crazy lately and shoves her hands in her mouth all the time.  I have been feeling for teeth, but so far we have none.

This for us except DD only started a couple of weeks ago. I've also definitely heard that they can sometimes teeth for months before anything even comes through.

I know one of the signs is that their gums get redder (DD's are still white), but I'm not sure how common that is.

  • I thought of 2 other things that she did. She would stick out her tongue and was sucking in her bottom lip. She must have been able to feel them moving around.
  • DD cut her first tooth yesterday, coincidentally she was 5 months old yesterday too. I felt her gums over the weekend and there was just a bump and then all of the sudden a tooth poking through!! She had been drooling and putting everything in her mouth.
