I called my LO's doctor to ask what I should do for bad constipation. She screams and cries when she tries to poop and her fact turns bright red. Doctor is saying to give her 1/3 of a cap full of Miralax in one of her bottles everyday and that it is 100% safe and she won't become dependent on it. Has anyone else been told this? That seems kind of odd to me. I have increased the fruit fiber in her diet. I offer her juice but she doesn't like juice. She'll take water without a problem though.
1. Is miralax safe? Have you used it?
2. What is your remedy for constipation??
LO is 11 months old.
Thanks!
Re: Miralax for Constipation??
Miralax is the brand name for polyethylene glycol. It's safe--it helps waste absorb water so it can be passed more easily--but it can be habit forming at high doses. I'd probably use it for a little while but then wean off it slowly and rely on extra water and P-fruits (peaches, pears, prunes, pumpkin) to help keep things moving.
And don't forget that extra fiber without extra fluids can be constipating.
