Ok so I'm trying not to get all freaked out or anything but I am a little concerned and I just want to get some opinions.
My son is 5 weeks old and exclusively breast fed, at first he had very normal bowel movements, he'd have one just about every time he fed and they were yellow, seedy, and wet (without being too runny). Well within the past three or four days his poos have slowed down a lot and they went from being seedy to looking a like peanut butter with little bits of seedy-ness still in it. (Like chunky peanut butter but the chunks aren't so big). His feeding patterns really haven't changed too much, he started sleeping a little longer at night about a week and a half ago. So he eats every two hours during the day and he eats every three and a half to four hours are night. Just before bed instead of nursing 15mins per side like he normally does during the day he'll nurse almost 20-25 minutes per side before I put him down for bed. He's gaining weight really well and he doesn't have any noticeable sign or sickness and I check his temp. every day so I'm not like, extremely concerned yet. Should I be??
Re: Poop Question! 5wk old
Our son is also five weeks old and we are also going through the poop scares as well. He can go 2-3 days without one, and when it blows, it blows hardcore!! He is on both BM and formula, which is nothing odd at all.
The hardest thing about it is watching him stress out over it. He tries his hardest to push it out, and he pushes really, really hard. We are going to the doctor this afternoon and we plan on seeing if there is anything we can do about it. From what my wife and I have read on this, we feel like we should not be as concerned as we are about it. We try to get him calm by rubbing his stomach and doing the bicycle kicks with his little legs, but that only goes so far. No one wants to see their newborn uncomfortable and stressed.
But right now, when he finally poops, it is like a celebration for us because we know he will be much more comfortable.
My pedi always tells us that his "record breastfeed baby" would only poop every 10 days. It's normal for them to start spreading out after a month.
