Neither of my kids have the watch, but we do have two Lego alarm clocks and a set of Lego walkie-talkies, and I haven't been impressed with the quality of either product. The clocks were expensive, too! My sense is that you're paying a lot for the Lego brand name on a cheap product.
I would hold off and hope he forgets about it. If he's still talking about it by Thanksgiving, maybe order one for Christmas.
