who's flown southwest with a child?

hi. so i decided to take dd on a trip with me. i have read that you can get a child fare if you jump through hoops to verify the childs age. ive also read that its not worth the hassle for the minimal savings. so more than likely i will get an adult ticket for dd. she is 2 1/2. will i need to show an ID for her other than her birth certificate in order for her to board the plane? any info would be great. thanks!

Re: who's flown southwest with a child?

  • I just flew Southwest with DD this weekend.  Even though she is under 2, we bought a seat for her.  I first found our flight on Southwest's website and checked the "Wanna Get Away" prices.  Then when I called Southwest to inquire about getting a child's fare, they actually advised me that the Wanna Get Away price was cheaper than a child's fare for our flight.  So I would defnintely check into that as well!  We didn't need her birth certificiate at all, maybe because we didn't get the child's fare.  Good luck!

  • Only under 2 is free on Southwest... and they require a birth certificate for under 2.  We have flown using Southwest when he was a lap child, and with his carseat over the age of 2.  They are amazing...super understanding and helpful with the carseat and stroller.  BTW, you have to put the carseat in the window seat if you bring it.  And if over 2, and have a seat, you don't any id for the child and can board between A and B boarding.
