Teething without pacifier

My 5 month old has never really taken a pacifier, which is fine by me, but what can I give her at night to suck on? She's not cranky but awake and wanting to chew my thumb... Hers not so much.

  • Sophie?? That's what DD used. It was Sophie and frozen eggo's.

Oh, that giraffe thing? That's a good idea. I'll get one tomorrow.
    That's safe for crib, right?

I would assume so. They can't suffocate on a squeaky piece of rubber can they??

I sure hope not. Totally worth a try I'll be getting one tomorrow. My son never used one and I wasn't sure what it was really. Just googled it.
Thanks. Hope she likes it as much the reviews I read hype it to be.
  • Does she like the teething rings? My son hated them, especially frozen, before he got his first tooth but ever since then he loves them.

You aren't supposed to freeze any teething ring.  It can give them frostbite.  Refrigerated should be adequate.

Chappers, P never took a paci either.  We didn't do Sophie either.  I would look in the teething aisle at BRU (or whatever) and get a few different options.  Teethers are usually fairly inexpensive, and a few options at hand might be helpful.

Actually, I would be careful of leaving you daughter with one. I read some story that when babies shove the head or legs far enough back while biting down, it reinflates and gets stuck back there. I am sure this is me being overly paranoid, but wanted to let you know, just in case you might be as neurotic as I am.:)

  • Mine never took a pacifier. He used my boob. So I can't really help but when it was bad I'd give Motrin at bedtime and usually at least once during the night after 6 hours or whatever.

Can I borrow your boob? Lol
Anyone try this razthing? It's a "pacifier" but bumps all over. I got one, thinking its more of something to chew on vs a paci she may use it.
Geez, I didn't even think about her gagging on Sophie! I used a teething ring with DS, but he didn't care for it... Could be because it was frozen and gave him frostbite! Geez, didn't think of that either! ...the package said keep in freezer... Hum, refrigerator is a good idea instead.
  • My son loved the pacifier, but never ever chewed on it while teething.  He often refused to use it because I think sucking actually hurt his gums.  We tried the raz thing you are mentioning, frozen wash clothes and every teething ring including Sophie we could find, the kid just wasn't interested.  In the long run tylenol, an ergo carrier (he was happy as long as he was being held it saved my sanity), and a homeopathic product called Camilla got us through teething.  Good Luck Mama.

I bought the raz thing when DD was teething.  She never touched it.  Until a couple months ago when she found it and was just being wierd.

    I've heard the same thing.

DS was a non-pacifier baby as well and he never took to teethers (no rings, no sophie, no nothing).  If he was really in pain we just let him nurse to his content and gave him a dose of tylenol.
