A Bumpie privately asked about books I had read to help with parenting since I've been so open about not wanting to be like my parents. I figured I would go ahead and share the book I'm just finishing in case other people were looking as well:
Creating True Peace: Ending Violence in Yourself, Your Family, Your Community, and the World by Thich Nhat Hanh
https://www.amazon.com/Creating-True-Peace-Violence-Community/dp/0743245202
This book has some great exercises that will be exciting to try when our LOs are older. One is called "Orange Meditation," where you and your child eat an orange together, and you explain how the orange was once a seed, then a tree, then a blossom, then an orange, etc. You make sure to take fifteen minutes to eat the orange and really enjoy it as a mindfulness practice.
Another one is to have a bell that anyone in the family can ring when there's a disagreement and people need to calm down and to have a designated space which is sort of a "time out" that anyone can send themselves to when they need to calm down.
Hope that helps!
Re: Book recommendation...
Thanks for commenting on this one... I felt like I wrote it to be helpful, and then... *crickets*
