Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Almost 12 month old waking every hour

My DD has been a really good sleeper from the get go.  We've had very few rough nights outside the times she's been sick.  A few weeks ago, she came down with the "back to daycare cold."  She's better now, but during the illness my husband and I comforted DD during the night when she woke up coughing for sneezing.

Now that she's better, she's waking up far more often than she did when she was sick.  For the last week, it's been every hour.  My husband and I don't do anything more than lay her back down and leave the room.  DD goes back to sleep in her crib immediately without much fuss.  So I'm not sure it's a separation anxiety problem or even nightmares.

My concern is why she's waking up so frequently.  She is teething, but we've been giving her children's tylenol before she goes to bed.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem?  We've been sticking to a regular bedtime routine since the beginning.  DD is a very happy, healthy baby otherwise.

Thanks for any advice,

L

  • It's a huge time for development. It's probably just a phase and you'll have to ride it out. We've found ibuprophen works much better for teething. Also we spray our finger with chloroseptic (the throat spray) and rub it on our DD's gums, at the advice of our peds, does the trick and doesnt numb their throat. HOpe you and your husband get some sleep.

  • If it is teething pain, you might see better results with ibuprofen.  It takes longer to burn off (dose last 6-8 hrs) and it contains and anti-inflamatory.  It seems to do the trick with E is having a rough time sleeping from teething, allows him to get a few hours in uninterrupted sleep.
